The David Bowie Centre Opened in London This Saturday

This past Saturday, September 13, London welcomed visitors to the new David Bowie Centre. Located within the V&A East Storehouse complex, the cultural space now serves as a permanent home for the iconic British musician’s extensive personal archive, which contains over 90,000 items.

Spanning Bowie’s 50-year career, the archive includes 70,000 photographs, 400 stage costumes—including his legendary Ziggy Stardust outfits—150 musical instruments, personal notes, handwritten lyrics, letters, and much more.

The exhibitions explore Bowie’s creative evolution, his multifaceted personality, and his enormous impact on global pop culture, fashion, and art. Among the unique items on display were notebooks discovered in Bowie’s New York office after his death in 2016. These contained ideas and notes for a planned musical titled The Spectator, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the artist’s creative process during the final stage of his life.
