Scandic Hotels is bringing its budget-friendly brand Scandic Go to Norway, starting with the transformation of Scandic Grensen in downtown Oslo. The 96-room hotel will be rebranded and relaunched as the country’s first Scandic Go, with doors set to open in the first half of 2026.
The move marks an expansion of Scandic’s economy segment, designed to meet growing demand for affordable yet stylish urban stays. Scandic Go hotels are known for combining smart design, digital self-service and attractive prices—appealing to modern travelers who want comfort and convenience without the frills.
“Norway is one of Scandic’s most important markets, with high demand and excellent growth opportunities,” says Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group. “Establishing a Scandic Go in downtown Oslo is an important milestone for our growth strategy and opens the door to more guests who want to discover the city.”
The choice of Scandic Grensen is strategic: its central location and existing infrastructure make it an ideal fit for the brand. Just steps away from Karl Johans gate, Oslo Cathedral and the Norwegian Parliament, the hotel places guests in the heart of the city’s cultural and historic landmarks.
Before reopening, the property will be updated to reflect the Scandic Go identity, with refreshed interiors and a streamlined guest experience. Sustainability will also play a role, as the new hotel will carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, in line with Scandic’s wider commitment to eco-certified operations.
“I’m delighted to introduce our first Scandic Go in the Norwegian market,” says Asle Prestegard, COO of Scandic Norway. “With its central location and modern profile, it will satisfy the needs of a new generation of guests and be a welcome addition to the Norwegian hotel industry.”
With Scandic Go already established in other Nordic cities, the Oslo launch signals Scandic’s continued focus on diversifying its portfolio and reaching new traveler segments.
