Scandic to Open Landmark Hotel in Hamburg with Rooftop Views and Nordic Design by 2030

Scandinavian hospitality is making a bold statement in northern Germany. Scandic Hotels Group has announced a major expansion in Hamburg with plans to open a new 430-room hotel in the heart of the city — complete with a rooftop bar, sky terrace, and Nordic-inspired design.

Set to open in 2030, the hotel will rise beside Ankelmannplatz square and Berliner Tor station, one of Hamburg’s busiest transit hubs and a key location within one of the city’s largest urban redevelopment areas.

A Prime Urban Location with Panoramic Potential

The hotel’s tenth floor will house a fitness center, sky bar, and rooftop terrace — offering guests and locals breathtaking panoramic views of Hamburg’s skyline and harbor. Below, the ground floor will feature a vibrant restaurant and bar, anchoring the hotel as both a social hub and architectural landmark.

“We’re not just building a new hotel, but creating a place where people can meet, get inspired and feel at home,” says Jens Mathiesen, CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.

Scandic Doubles Down on Hamburg

This marks Scandic’s second hotel in Hamburg, further strengthening its foothold in one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. With nearly 2 million residents and the third-largest harbor in Europe, Hamburg is a magnet for both business and leisure travelers.

The city is also a leading center for logistics, research, science, and education, home to world-class universities and global companies — making it an ideal market for modern hospitality offerings.

“This investment is a natural next step in our German growth strategy,” says Jesper Engman, Scandic’s SVP of Portfolio Development. “Hamburg offers both strong market fundamentals and a unique atmosphere that aligns well with our Nordic values.”

A New Vision of Sustainable Nordic Elegance

The hotel’s modern, sustainable design will reflect Scandic’s core values of accessibility, warmth, and environmental care. Rooms will be thoughtfully configured for both business and leisure travelers, while on-site parking, public amenities, and a light-filled lounge will enhance guest comfort and community integration.

The project is being developed in collaboration with PEG and Reiss+Co, co-owners of the centrally located plot.
