Zaha Hadid Architects Unveil Visionary Khalid Bin Sultan City in Sharjah

Zaha Hadid Architects has revealed the design for Khalid Bin Sultan City, a pioneering new development in Sharjah, UAE, planned alongside their acclaimed Beeah Headquarters.

Designed for environmental management leader Beeah Group, the city will rise east of Sharjah International Airport and build upon the fluid architectural language of the 2022-completed Beeah Headquarters, marking the northernmost point of the development.

Organic Design Inspired by Desert Dunes
Khalid Bin Sultan City will comprise seven residential neighborhoods characterized by sweeping, organically shaped buildings inspired by the natural forms of desert dunes. Each neighborhood will center around a communal public space, fostering community interaction and connection.

A Two-Kilometer Park as the City’s Lively Heart
At the core of the city lies a winding, two-kilometer-long park that snakes through the urban fabric, linking neighborhoods with natural beauty and vibrant social spaces. This green spine will feature running and cycling tracks, sculpture gardens, serene courtyards, wildlife ponds, and a variety of cafes and restaurants.

According to Zaha Hadid Architects, “The width of this park varies as its borders extend in some areas to create a series of distinct pockets enveloped by nature for diverse activities, fostering a unique sense of place at every turn.”

Climate-Responsive Landscaping
To combat Sharjah’s intense desert heat, pathways shaded by native colonnades and trees will connect the neighborhoods. Additionally, water features and thoughtfully designed landscaping will help reduce ground temperatures, promoting a comfortable and sustainable urban environment.
