Jet2 Flight Diverts to Faro After Mid-Air Medical Emergency En Route to Lanzarote

A Jet2 flight from Glasgow to Lanzarote was forced to make an emergency diversion to Portugal after a passenger required urgent medical attention during the journey.

Jet2 flight LS167, operated by a Boeing 737-800 registered G-JZBI, departed Glasgow Airport at 15:30 BST on a scheduled service to Arrecife Airport (ACE) in Lanzarote.

Medical Emergency at 37,000 Feet

Approximately two and a half hours into the flight, while cruising at 37,000 feet off the Portuguese coast, the crew declared a medical emergency after a passenger became unwell.

The pilots initiated a descent and diverted the aircraft to Faro Airport (FAO) in southern Portugal, where emergency medical services were waiting on the ground to assist.

Upon landing, paramedics boarded the aircraft and the affected passenger was transferred to a local hospital for further treatment.

Flight Continued After Brief Stop

Following a ground stop of around two hours, during which the aircraft was refuelled and prepared for departure, flight LS167 resumed its journey to Lanzarote.

The Boeing 737 departed Faro and continued to Arrecife, where the remaining passengers arrived safely later the same evening with only a moderate delay.

Jet2 has not released further details about the passenger’s condition, and airlines generally do not disclose medical information to protect individual privacy.

Medical diversions are among the most common reasons for unscheduled landings. Flight crews follow established procedures to ensure passengers receive medical care as quickly as possible while maintaining the safety of everyone on board.
