Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is preparing for another busy summer holiday season, expecting to welcome more than 12.7 million travellers between July 3 and August 30. The forecast represents a slight increase from the 12.4 million passengers handled during the same period last year.
The airport expects an average of 219,000 passengers each day, including departing, arriving and transfer travellers, compared with around 213,000 daily passengers during the summer of 2025.
Passenger Numbers Continue to Grow
On an average day this summer, Schiphol expects approximately 71,000 departing passengers, 71,000 arriving passengers and 77,000 transfer passengers. Each category has increased slightly compared with last year’s holiday season.
The airport said the continued growth highlights Schiphol’s role as one of Europe’s major aviation hubs, connecting the Netherlands with destinations around the world for leisure, business and family travel.
Spain Remains the Top Holiday Destination
Spain is once again the most popular destination for travellers departing from Schiphol this summer, followed by the United Kingdom and Greece. Italy, Turkey and the United States also rank among the busiest destinations.
Portugal, Germany, France and Ireland continue to attract significant passenger numbers, with overall travel patterns remaining largely unchanged from last year.
Schiphol’s Summer Travel Advice
To help passengers enjoy a smoother airport experience, Schiphol recommends planning journeys to the airport carefully, allowing extra time for roadworks and public transport disruptions, and checking in online whenever possible.
Passengers are encouraged to reserve a free security timeslot through the Schiphol app or website up to three days before departure. The airport also reminds travellers that power banks must always be packed in hand luggage, while liquids, gels and creams remain limited to containers of up to 100 ml despite the use of modern CT security scanners.
Travellers should also verify passport validity before departure, familiarise themselves with customs regulations for their destination and use the Schiphol app, website or WhatsApp service for real-time flight updates, security waiting times and terminal information.
