Schiphol Cuts Airport Fees by 10% to Support Airlines Amid Fuel Crisis

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has announced a temporary reduction in airport charges of more than 10%, aiming to support airlines facing rising operating costs linked to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The measure comes as carriers grapple with sharply higher kerosene prices, which have significantly increased expenses across the aviation sector. Schiphol said the decision is intended to help airlines maintain essential flight operations and ensure the Netherlands remains well connected globally during a period of uncertainty.

The discount will apply from April 27, 2026 through March 31, 2027 and will be limited to daytime flights. Night operations are excluded, as the airport continues efforts to discourage overnight flying due to environmental concerns.

Airport officials подчеркнули, что strong aviation connectivity is critical not only for passenger travel but also for supply chains, including the transport of goods and food, as well as for emergency and repatriation flights. Maintaining a resilient aviation network is seen as key to economic stability and national independence.

While the fee reduction is expected to have a short-term negative impact on Schiphol’s financial performance, the airport confirmed that it will not affect its long-term investment plans. Schiphol stated it remains financially stable and committed to balancing operational costs, charges and future infrastructure development.

The move reflects a broader trend across the aviation industry, where airports and airlines are adapting to volatile fuel prices and geopolitical risks in an effort to sustain operations and manage rising costs.
