Iconic La Guaira Eduard’s Hotel Collapses After Venezuela Earthquakes

Eduard’s Hotel, one of the best-known landmarks in Venezuela’s coastal state of La Guaira, has collapsed after two powerful earthquakes struck northern Venezuela, leaving the popular seaside property reduced to rubble as rescue operations continue.

Located in the municipality of Macuto, the hotel was known for its ocean views, swimming pool, restaurants, gym and family-friendly facilities. During the FIFA World Cup, it had been promoting special accommodation packages that included breakfast, unlimited drinks and entertainment in an effort to attract both local and international visitors.

Images shared on social media showed the building completely destroyed following the twin earthquakes. The hotel’s management later posted an appeal on Instagram requesting emergency assistance and rescue teams to search for possible survivors trapped beneath the debris.

According to Venezuelan news outlet Diamante 23, staff members and relatives associated with the Guerreros de Lara baseball club and the Delfines de La Guaira team were staying at the hotel when the earthquakes struck.

Rescue Operations Continue

The powerful earthquakes caused widespread destruction across La Guaira, one of the areas hardest hit by the disaster. Emergency crews continue searching damaged buildings while authorities assess the full extent of the destruction.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said its preliminary PAGER assessment indicates the earthquakes could result in catastrophic casualties, estimating a potential death toll ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 people, while also warning of severe economic losses. The assessment is an automated early estimate and may change as more information becomes available.
