Naples Airport To Close For Entire Month As Runway Modernisation Begins

Naples Airport will close completely for one month in late 2026 as authorities begin major runway modernisation works that are expected to disrupt flight schedules and force airlines to adjust operations.

The airport confirmed it will suspend operations between November 1 and November 30, 2026, while essential infrastructure upgrades are carried out.

The temporary closure will affect one of southern Italy’s busiest airports and could create significant operational changes for airlines serving the region.

Runway Modernisation Forces Full Airport Shutdown

Airport authorities selected November for the closure because it traditionally represents one of the quietest periods for passenger traffic.

The lower demand during late autumn is expected to reduce disruption compared with closure periods during peak summer months when southern Italy experiences its highest tourism volumes.

Runway modernisation projects often require complete operational shutdowns due to the scale of construction work and safety requirements involved.

Airlines Begin Adjusting Flight Schedules

Many airlines have already started modifying schedules for the affected period, with several routes temporarily suspended during November.

Current plans suggest numerous services will resume in December once the runway works are completed and operations restart.

Travelers booking flights for late 2026 may increasingly see schedule adjustments or changes to departure airports as airlines finalize contingency plans.

Some Flights Could Move To Alternative Airports

While numerous services are expected to be suspended temporarily, some routes could potentially move to nearby airports during the closure period.

Alternative airports, including Salerno, may receive diverted services depending on airline operational decisions and available capacity.

Passengers planning travel to southern Italy during November 2026 are expected to face changing schedules and may need to carefully check departure airports as carriers update their operations.

The closure highlights how infrastructure investment projects increasingly require airports to balance long-term improvements with short-term operational disruption.
