Fire At Malaga City Centre Hotel Triggers Mass Evacuation

A major overnight fire in central Malaga forced the evacuation of more than 100 hotel guests and tourists after flames spread through a building in one of the busiest areas of the Costa del Sol city.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at Le Grand Café and spread to the nearby Ibis hotel located directly above the premises, according to local reports.

Hotel Guests Evacuated Overnight

Emergency crews responded to the blaze as several streets in Malaga city centre were closed to allow firefighters access to the area.

Authorities and hotel staff helped evacuate guests from the building while emergency operations continued overnight. Early reports indicated there were no serious injuries.

The evacuation highlighted how quickly incidents in dense urban tourism districts can disrupt accommodation plans, particularly during overnight hours when hotels are operating at high occupancy.

Disruption In One Of Spain’s Major Tourism Hubs

Malaga remains one of the most visited destinations on Spain’s Costa del Sol, attracting international tourists throughout the year for short city breaks, cruises and business travel.

Hotels in the city centre often operate with high guest turnover, making emergency incidents especially disruptive because travellers may suddenly need alternative accommodation or changes to onward transport arrangements.

Visitors staying in the affected property could also face delays in recovering luggage and personal belongings while authorities assess the condition of the building.

Cause Of Fire Still Under Investigation

Officials had not yet confirmed the cause of the blaze or the extent of the damage to the café and hotel.

There was also no immediate information on when the hotel might reopen or whether displaced guests had been transferred to nearby accommodation.

Further updates from local authorities are expected to clarify how many rooms were affected and whether additional safety inspections will be required before the property can resume operations.

Emergency Response Closed Central Streets

The fire also caused temporary disruption in central Malaga as emergency vehicles and response teams moved into the area.

Street closures affected movement through one of the city’s busiest tourism and commercial districts during the early morning hours.

The incident comes as Malaga continues to experience strong visitor demand ahead of the summer travel season across southern Spain.
