Boston Logan International Airport is introducing a new remote security screening programme that will allow eligible Delta and JetBlue passengers to complete TSA screening at an off-airport terminal before being transported directly into secure areas at the airport.
The pilot programme launches on June 1 and is being described by the Massachusetts Port Authority as the first system of its kind in the United States.
The initiative is designed to reduce congestion at Boston Logan while offering travellers a faster and potentially less stressful airport experience.
How The New Remote Screening System Works
Passengers using the service will begin their journey at a dedicated terminal in Framingham, Massachusetts, located roughly 25 miles from Boston Logan Airport.
Travellers can check in for their flight, drop off checked baggage and complete TSA security screening at the Framingham facility before boarding a shuttle bus directly to the airport.
Once passengers arrive at Logan, they will enter directly into post-security areas inside their respective terminals, bypassing traditional airport screening checkpoints.
Delta passengers will arrive at Gate A18 in Terminal A, while JetBlue customers will be dropped near Gate C8 in Terminal C.
A New Approach To Airport Congestion
The programme arrives as airports across the United States continue searching for new ways to manage rising passenger volumes and improve operational efficiency.
Boston Logan has experienced particularly heavy congestion during peak travel periods in recent years due to strong domestic and international demand.
By shifting some passenger processing away from the airport itself, officials hope the remote screening system can reduce pressure on terminal infrastructure while streamlining the travel experience.
The shuttle service will be operated by Landline Company, which specialises in integrated ground-to-air travel connections.
What Travellers Need To Know
The remote screening option is available only for eligible passengers flying on select Delta and JetBlue departures between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Travellers can reserve the service up to 90 days before departure through Massport’s booking platform.
The shuttle ride costs $9 each way, while parking at the Framingham facility is priced at $7 per day.
Because the initiative is operating as a pilot programme, availability is expected to remain limited during the initial rollout period.
Airport Innovation Expands Across The U.S.
The launch reflects a broader push within the aviation industry toward more flexible and technology-driven airport processing systems.
Airports worldwide are increasingly experimenting with biometric screening, off-site check-in facilities and integrated transport models aimed at reducing wait times and improving passenger flow.
If successful, Boston’s remote screening model could influence how other major U.S. airports manage security processing and terminal congestion in the future.
For travellers departing from Boston this summer, the programme offers a new alternative to traditional airport check-in — potentially transforming one of the most time-consuming parts of air travel into a smoother experience.
