ITA Airways and Italian high-speed rail operator Italo have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at creating a more seamless travel experience through combined airline and train ticket bookings.
The agreement was signed on 11 May 2026 by ITA Airways chief executive Joerg Eberhart and Italo chief executive Gianbattista La Rocca.
The partnership is designed to introduce a new intermodal travel product allowing passengers to purchase both flight and high-speed rail tickets within a single booking.
Integrated Travel Experience Planned From July
According to the companies, the combined ticketing system is expected to become available from July.
The product will be distributed through travel agencies, travel management platforms, global distribution systems and the ITA Airways website.
The initiative aims to simplify travel planning by allowing passengers to combine air and rail connections into a single itinerary.
Improved Access To Italian Airports
The partnership is expected to improve connectivity between Italian cities and airports served by ITA Airways, particularly for travellers departing from locations not directly connected to the airline’s route network.
Passengers will be able to combine high-speed train journeys with domestic and international flights through a unified booking process.
The companies say the goal is to reduce transfer complexity and minimise waiting times between transport modes.
Growing Focus On Intermodal Travel In Europe
The agreement reflects a broader trend across Europe’s transport sector, where airlines and rail operators are increasingly cooperating to improve sustainable and integrated mobility options.
Intermodal partnerships have become more common as travellers seek smoother connections between city centres, rail networks and airports.
For ITA Airways, the agreement also supports wider efforts to strengthen domestic connectivity across Italy while improving access to its international flight network.
