Modernisation at Szczecin-Goleniów Airport has moved forward after the West Pomeranian Voivodeship governor approved the rebuilding and expansion of the passenger terminal. The project, backed by funding from the West Pomeranian region, can now move from planning into full implementation.
The work is due to finish in 2027 and airport operations will continue while construction is under way. The upgrade is part of a broader effort to improve the airport’s capacity and passenger facilities.
The approval is a key step for Szczecin-Goleniów, which has been preparing for the terminal project with regional financial support. It means construction can now begin in earnest, bringing the airport closer to a larger and more modern terminal without closing the facility.
According to the announcement, the investment is focused on rebuilding and expanding the passenger terminal. No further technical details were given, but the plan signals one of the airport’s most significant development projects in recent years.
The airport has remained in operation throughout the preparation phase, and that is expected to continue during the works. Keeping flights running while construction proceeds is likely to be a major operational challenge, but it also allows the airport to maintain services for passengers and airlines.
Szczecin-Goleniów is an important airport for north-western Poland, serving both domestic and international travellers. The modernisation is expected to improve the travel experience and support future growth once the work is complete.
The investment comes at a time when regional airports are under pressure to upgrade infrastructure and compete for passengers. For Szczecin, the permit marks a practical milestone after months of preparation and gives the project a clear timeline for delivery.
The announcement did not include a breakdown of costs or the full scope of each stage of the redevelopment. It did, however, confirm that the terminal project has secured the necessary authorisation to proceed.
Once complete, the rebuilt terminal should give the airport more room for passengers and better conditions for handling traffic. For now, the focus shifts to construction, with work expected to continue alongside normal airport operations until 2027.
