Lubuskie Offers Nearly 800 Zloty Subsidy for Albania Holidays

Poland’s Lubuskie region is set to pay almost 800 zloty per holidaymaker under a tourism promotion scheme linked to charter flights from Zielona Gora to Tirana, after the opening of bids showed a single applicant and a price almost matching the budget.

The regional marshal’s office launched the tender as part of its effort to promote the area through summer travel, using holidays in Albania as the main vehicle for the campaign. The bid process suggests the public subsidy would cover most of the gap between the planned budget and the cost of the package.

The result has put fresh attention on how regional authorities in Poland use travel deals to market local destinations, while also supporting overseas leisure routes. In this case, the promotion plan is tied to outbound summer tourism rather than a direct spend on local advertising alone.

The tender concerns flights from Zielona Gora to Tirana, the Albanian capital, and the subsidy works out at nearly 800 zloty for each traveller. That level of support indicates the scheme was designed to make the package viable even with only one bidder in the process.

Lubuskie has used travel-linked promotion before, but this latest move stands out because the funding appears closely aligned with the expected holiday price. The structure of the offer means the public sector is effectively helping to underwrite part of the trip, while branding it as regional promotion.

For travellers, the arrangement could mean cheaper access to a packaged summer break from western Poland to the Adriatic region. For the region, it is another example of local government trying to boost visibility through aviation and tourism partnerships.

Officials did not say in the material provided how many seats or departures the scheme would include, or when the trips would begin. The tender result, however, shows that Lubuskie is prepared to commit significant funds to secure the route and the associated publicity.

The outcome also highlights the limited competition in some regional tourism tenders. With only one bidder, the authority has little room to push the price down, leaving the subsidy close to the planned spending ceiling.

Albania has become a growing destination for European holidaymakers in recent years, and routes from smaller regional airports have expanded as demand rises. For Lubuskie, the Tirana link offers a way to tie its name to a popular summer destination while using aviation as a promotional tool.

The move now places the region among a number of local authorities using travel incentives to support air links and tourism campaigns. Whether the strategy delivers enough visibility to justify the cost will depend on how many passengers take part and how the route performs over the summer season.
