The Dorchester is entering a new era. On June 1, the iconic Mayfair property will unveil its reimagined Royal Suite, bringing to a close the most significant renovation in the hotel’s more than 30-year history.
Designed by acclaimed French interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, the suite reflects a distinctly British sensibility – blending pastoral inspiration with refined craftsmanship and contemporary luxury.
Perched on the eighth floor, the Royal Suite draws heavily on the textures and tones of the British countryside. Floral wallpaper, soft pastel palettes, bespoke carpets and Versailles parquet flooring define the aesthetic, while expansive windows frame sweeping views across Hyde Park.
Luca Virgilio, general manager of The Dorchester, described the new space as “a testament to the art of craftsmanship,” adding that every element has been carefully curated to reflect both London’s heritage and modern luxury expectations.
A residence designed for scale and privacy
The Royal Suite has been conceived as a flexible private residence, capable of connecting up to four rooms into a combined footprint exceeding 478 square metres. The result is one of the largest and most versatile luxury hotel accommodations in London.
At its centre is a master bedroom that fuses English neoclassicism with a subtle 1950s influence, expressed through soft pastel hues and elegant detailing. A separate sitting area in ivory and pale tones leads into an expansive dressing room and a marble-clad bathroom featuring a double shower.
Elsewhere, the suite includes a formal dining room for up to 10 guests, positioned to maximise views over Hyde Park. A private kitchen allows for bespoke in-suite dining experiences curated by culinary director Martyn Nail and The Dorchester’s food and beverage team.
A dedicated study introduces a more classical atmosphere, anchored by a mahogany bookcase, Tisserant lighting and a distinctive red lacquer desk inspired by Chinese design.
Final chapter in a multi-year reinvention
The unveiling of the Royal Suite marks the culmination of a sweeping transformation across The Dorchester. Over recent years, the hotel has renovated all guest rooms and suites alongside key public spaces including The Promenade, Vesper Bar, Artists’ Bar and The Grill, as well as launching the Cake & Flowers boutique.
The project builds on earlier highlights such as the restoration of the Oliver Messel Suite, a process that required more than 2,000 hours of specialist craftsmanship.
Looking ahead, The Dorchester has also confirmed plans for a rooftop restaurant and a members’ club, although timelines for these additions remain undisclosed.
With the Royal Suite now complete, the hotel reinforces its position at the pinnacle of London’s luxury hospitality scene – where heritage, design and modern expectations converge.
