American Airlines has launched a new nonstop service between Miami and Bimini, adding airlift to one of the closest Caribbean destinations to the United States – and one of the shortest international routes in the region.
The first Miami-Bimini flight landed at South Bimini Airport (BIM) on Saturday, Feb. 14. The service is operating three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a flight time of approximately 52 minutes, often arriving even faster.
The launch adds a new level of convenience for travellers who previously relied on ferry schedules or private boat crossings. With a scheduled nonstop flight now in place, Bimini becomes a destination that can be booked and reached for a simple long weekend, without complex planning.
For Miami-based travellers, the service creates one of the fastest transitions from a major US airport to a small Bahamian island.
Unlike larger resort destinations in the Bahamas, Bimini is a small, long and narrow archipelago with a travel experience that stays close to the water. Its identity has long been shaped by fishing, diving and boating – and those elements remain central even as new developments have arrived.
With American Airlines now offering a direct air option from Miami, Bimini is expected to appeal to travellers seeking a quick tropical escape with an island atmosphere that feels intimate, local and ocean-led.
