Myanmar Airways International is considering launching direct flights from Myanmar to Moscow, with operations expected to begin between late 2026 and early 2027, according to the Moscow City News Agency.

“Our plans to start flights to Moscow are still under development – we expect to launch them either at the end of 2026 or at the beginning of 2027,” said Tanes Kumar, the airline’s Commercial Director.

The announcement follows the recent signing of a visa-free travel agreement between Russia and Myanmar. The agreement was signed by the foreign ministers of both countries, Sergey Lavrov and Than Swe, further strengthening bilateral ties.

Regular air service between the two countries resumed two years ago after a 30-year hiatus, with Myanmar Airways operating flights on the Yangon – Mandalay – Novosibirsk route. Those flights were suspended in 2025, but plans are now in motion to not only restore them but also extend the route to Moscow, according to Dmitry Petrovsky, Executive Director of the Russian-Myanmar Business Council.

Meanwhile, according to the schedule of Novosibirsk’s Tolmachevo Airport, Myanmar Airways will resume flights from Novosibirsk to Mandalay and Yangon starting November 2.
