LOT Polish Airlines Launches Warsaw–Porto Route in May 2026

LOT Polish Airlines will expand its Iberian network with a new direct connection between Warsaw and Porto, launching on May 25, 2026. The new route will operate five times per week during the summer season—on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—and four times weekly in winter, on the same schedule except Mondays.

Flights from Warsaw Chopin Airport will depart at 10:20, arriving in Porto at 13:25. The return flight will leave Porto at 14:25 and land in Warsaw at 19:10. The journey will take approximately 4 hours and 5 minutes westbound and 3 hours and 45 minutes eastbound. The service will be operated by modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

According to Robert Ludera, Director of LOT’s Network Office, the new connection represents an important step in strengthening the airline’s position on the Iberian Peninsula. “The route opens the opportunity for our passengers to discover not only the cultural richness and picturesque landscapes of northern Portugal, but also the unique character of Porto itself—its historic quarters, remarkable architecture, and culinary traditions. After the success of our Lisbon route, we want to invite travelers to explore another fascinating region of the country of great explorers.”

Located where the Douro River meets the Atlantic, Porto is Portugal’s second largest city and one of its oldest. Its name originates from the Latin Portus Cale, which eventually evolved into the name of the entire country. Known as “A Invicta,” or “The Unvanquished,” Porto’s nickname reflects its resilience during the 19th-century siege by royal forces, when the city famously refused to surrender.

Porto’s skyline is defined by the Dom Luís I Bridge, a two-level iron structure spanning the Douro and connecting the city with Vila Nova de Gaia. Visitors are drawn to the Baroque Torre dos Clérigos, the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa, and the ornate São Bento railway station, whose 20,000 blue-and-white azulejos tiles depict scenes from Portuguese history. Livraria Lello, often cited among the most beautiful bookstores in the world, famously inspired J.K. Rowling when she lived in the city.

Beyond its architecture and history, Porto is world-renowned for its port wine, matured in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. The local gastronomy pairs tradition with intensity—dishes like francesinha, a rich sandwich layered with meats, cheese, and a tomato-beer sauce, are emblematic of the city’s hearty cuisine.

Porto also serves as a gateway to northern Portugal, from the terraced vineyards of the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley to the seaside towns of Foz do Douro and Matosinhos. Whether for culture, cuisine, or coastal escapes, LOT’s new route positions Porto as an accessible destination for Polish travelers seeking a blend of heritage and relaxation on the Atlantic coast.
