KAYAK has unveiled AI Mode, a new natural-language search tool that allows travelers to plan entire trips simply by typing questions in plain language. The feature, now live on KAYAK’s US website and mobile browsers, blends KAYAK’s travel data with ChatGPT’s conversational intelligence to deliver faster, more intuitive results.
With AI Mode, users can search for flights, hotels, and rental cars all in one place — without relying on preset filters or rigid search fields. “Travelers aren’t limited to preset entry fields anymore,” said Steve Hafner, KAYAK CEO. “Just tell us what you’re looking for in plain language, and we’ll answer the same way.”
The company first introduced its experimental platform, KAYAK.ai, in April 2024 for internal testing. AI Mode marks its first major integration into the main KAYAK website, positioning the travel search giant at the forefront of AI-powered trip planning.
Launching just ahead of the holiday season, the tool is designed to help users quickly uncover flight and hotel deals during peak travel demand. According to Kate Williams, KAYAK’s Travel Trends Expert and CCO, “Holiday flight prices are trending below last year, but with search demand up 10% year-over-year, travelers shouldn’t wait to book.”
KAYAK data shows November 24 as the cheapest day to fly for Thanksgiving (averaging $415 round-trip) and Christmas Eve as the best-value day for both domestic and international travel. AI Mode can instantly surface insights like these through conversational prompts, turning complex searches into natural exchanges.
To showcase its capabilities, KAYAK suggests users try creative prompts such as “NYC hotels near Rockefeller Center for Dec. 23,” “Cheapest Caribbean destinations for a 7-day trip,” or “Find me a winter village for under $600 for flight and hotel.”
AI Mode is currently available in English for US users, with additional countries, languages, and even voice-entry features expected to follow later this month.
