In professional sports, where every detail can be the difference between victory and defeat, travel is no small matter. That’s why top athletes and elite teams often rely on VIP charter flights – tailored journeys designed to keep players rested, focused and ready to perform. For KlasJet, a global private and business charter airline, meeting the unique needs of athletes has become second nature.
From Football to Polo: Flying the World’s Top Athletes
For modern teams, charter flights aren’t a luxury – they’re a necessity. Premier League clubs alone average nearly 60 trips per season, according to The Athletic, and international tournaments like the Euros or World Cup only add to the demand.
“Football is the most obvious example. During major tournaments like the World Cup, nearly all of our planes are flying national teams,” says Šarūnė Valaikaitė, a KlasJet flight attendant. “But the diversity is growing – this year we’ve flown MotoGP riders, basketball teams, and even polo players. Just without the horses, of course.”
During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, she recalls, it wasn’t unusual for several KlasJet aircraft to be in the air at once, each carrying different national squads.
Precision Timing and Flexibility
Athletes, sponsors and VIP guests often move between multiple events in quick succession. Coordinating these journeys is a logistical challenge, but one that charter specialists are built to handle.
“We’ve built strong relationships with key airports and FBOs to guarantee priority handling,” explains Edvinas Finenko, Sales Development Manager at KlasJet. “For something like Formula 1, where minutes matter, that flexibility ensures our passengers never miss a beat.”
In many cases, the flight itself becomes part of the event experience. “Flying private to a major sporting event isn’t just about getting there,” Finenko adds. “It’s part of the overall journey.”
Nutrition, Privacy and Focus
Traveling with athletes means adjusting every detail, starting with food. Strict dietary rules, worked out in consultation with nutritionists, leave no room for improvisation.
“Nutrition is the number one concern,” says Valaikaitė. “It’s not just what you serve, but when. In many cases, even snacks are off-limits.”
Privacy is just as important. Ahead of career-defining games watched by millions, athletes need peace and focus. Cabin crew follow unwritten rules: no autograph requests, no unnecessary conversation, and above all, an environment where athletes can rest and recharge.
Triumphs and Tears in the Sky
For flight attendants, reading the atmosphere onboard is essential. Emotions can swing wildly after competitions.
“After a tough loss, you need to be extra sensitive,” Valaikaitė says. “But after a big win, the entire plane might erupt in celebration. Sometimes, it feels like you’re part of the team yourself.”
She recalls one flight where a manager handed the crew team jerseys, and they served the players wearing club colors instead of uniforms. “That’s the magic of this job. You don’t just transport people – you share their journey.”
For athletes chasing trophies, charter flights provide more than comfort and convenience. They ensure players arrive focused, fueled and ready for the next challenge – with their minds set firmly on victory.
