Avelo Airlines has officially made its international debut, introducing a new route from Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut, to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The inaugural flight, which departed on November 16, 2024, marked a significant milestone for the budget carrier as it welcomed over 150 passengers on board.
The service operates twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with one-way fares starting at $178. The three-hour flight aims to provide an affordable and convenient travel option for residents of Windsor and other parts of Connecticut, a region known for its strong cultural and familial ties to Jamaica.
“This new route connects the vibrant communities of Connecticut with Jamaica’s warm hospitality, stunning beaches, and rich culture,” said Andrew Levy, CEO of Avelo Airlines. “We’re thrilled to bring more affordable and accessible travel options to our customers.”
Montego Bay is one of several new destinations Avelo is adding as part of its largest expansion to date. Bradley International Airport will soon see additional international service with flights to Cancun, Mexico, set to begin on November 20, 2024.
With the addition of these routes, Avelo Airlines is solidifying its presence in Hartford and expanding its reach into the Caribbean. The airline’s strategy aligns with a growing demand for leisure travel, making popular destinations like Jamaica more accessible to a broader audience.
Tourism officials in Jamaica have welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the economic and cultural benefits of this new connection. “This route is a testament to the enduring bond between Jamaica and the diaspora in Connecticut,” said Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism.
Travelers seeking a convenient and budget-friendly getaway can now look to Avelo Airlines for direct access to the Caribbean’s vibrant attractions, with Montego Bay as the perfect gateway to Jamaica’s wonders.
