All Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced the launch of a direct flight from Milan Malpensa (MXP) to Tokyo Haneda (HND), beginning December 3. This will be the only nonstop route connecting Milan to Tokyo, eliminating the need for passengers to connect through Rome or other European hubs, marking a milestone in Italian-Asian connectivity from Northern Italy. The new route will join ANA’s extensive network of over 50 European routes, providing travelers in Italy a streamlined journey to Japan and beyond.
This service will operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which has a seating capacity of up to 296 passengers. With a flight time of approximately 13 hours, ANA’s Dreamliner will offer a comfortable long-haul experience for Italian travelers heading to Asia.
Currently, only seven direct routes connect Italy with Asian cities, serving Singapore, Bangkok, New Delhi, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, and Taipei. ANA’s addition of Tokyo to this list increases options for direct travel to Asia from Italy, underscoring rising demand for better connectivity between Mediterranean Europe and Asian destinations. The new route also highlights potential growth opportunities for airlines interested in enhancing connectivity between Europe’s Mediterranean regions and Asia’s expanding aviation market.
ANA’s direct Milan–Tokyo route not only reflects the airline’s expansion strategy but also strengthens Italy’s position as a key European gateway to Asia, particularly as demand for seamless travel continues to grow.
