SriLankan Airlines Captain Locks Co-Pilot Out of Cockpit During Flight

An unusual incident occurred on a SriLankan Airlines flight on September 21, though it has only recently come to light. During an 11-hour flight from Sydney to Colombo (UL 607), tensions between the captain and the co-pilot escalated, leading to a dramatic scene aboard the Airbus A330-300.

As the flight was nearing its end, the female co-pilot left the cockpit to use the restroom. She and the captain had reportedly been involved in a disagreement earlier in the flight. While she was away, the captain decided to lock the cockpit, preventing her from re-entering.

The co-pilot attempted to return to the cockpit but found the door locked. She repeatedly knocked and even banged on the door, but the captain refused to let her in. Eventually, members of the cabin crew had to intervene. They used the internal communication system to persuade the captain to unlock the cockpit and allow his colleague to return.

Despite the onboard confrontation, the flight landed safely in Colombo without further issues.

The Sri Lankan aviation authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and the captain has been suspended from flying. SriLankan Airlines is also conducting an internal investigation and is cooperating fully with the authorities.
