Denmark, Saudi Arabia, and Belgium Top Unexpected List of Most Attractive Countries for Expats

According to the Expat Insider survey, this year’s top three countries for expatriates have taken many by surprise. Leading the list are Denmark, Saudi Arabia, and Belgium, with Saudi Arabia’s inclusion being described as a “revolutionary achievement” for the Middle Eastern kingdom.

The study’s authors attribute Denmark’s popularity to its high standard of living, rapidly developing cities, diverse natural landscapes, impeccable cleanliness, and low crime rates. These factors combine to make the Scandinavian country the best choice for potential expats.

Saudi Arabia, which was not even considered a suitable destination for expatriates a decade ago, has now risen to second place globally. This rapid ascent from 14th place in recent years is credited to the kingdom’s dedication to creating exceptional working conditions for foreign workers. A striking 75% of respondents noted improved career opportunities, while 82% expressed satisfaction with the country’s economic stability.

However, the average workweek for expats in Saudi Arabia is 47.8 hours, compared to the global average of 42.5 hours.

Belgium secured third place in the global rankings for expatriate living. The country is known for its high quality of life and numerous public benefits. Residents praise the low crime rate, high-quality free education and healthcare, and its delicious, diverse cuisine. Despite these advantages, expats in Belgium are most concerned about the cost of living and taxes.
