Scandic Hotels is accelerating the expansion of its budget brand, Scandic Go. The company announced plans to open two new Scandic Go hotels in Sweden by 2026.
Both hotels will be created by converting existing office buildings, a strategy that allows for faster expansion compared to traditional hotel development. The first hotel, located in Gothenburg’s Lilla Bommen district, will offer 176 rooms. The second hotel, situated in UmeÃ¥, will boast 100 rooms.
“Scandic Go has been a resounding success since its launch in September 2023,” said a spokesperson for Scandic Hotels. “We’ve received positive feedback from both guests and property owners, and these new conversions demonstrate our commitment to growing the brand.”
The conversion strategy offers several advantages for Scandic. Firstly, it allows for quicker expansion in response to high demand for hotels, especially with longer lead times for traditional construction projects. Secondly, converting existing buildings is a win-win for property owners, who can capitalize on the growing hotel market while potentially incorporating additional commercial activities alongside the hotel operations.
With these additions, the total Scandic Go pipeline grows to five hotels across Sweden and Finland, offering a combined 876 rooms. The Gothenburg and Umeå hotels are expected to open in the first half of 2026, following renovations initiated by the property owners in early 2025.
Scandic Go hotels are designed to be smart and hassle-free, offering guests the essentials for a comfortable stay at an affordable price. The brand caters to budget-conscious travelers who prioritize a central location and a good night’s sleep.
This announcement underscores Scandic Hotels’ dedication to providing diverse accommodation options across the Nordic region. The expansion of Scandic Go allows the company to cater to a wider range of travelers while capitalizing on the growing demand for budget-friendly hotels.
