With the opening of a new base, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will launch flights from Riga to 16 new destinations – Aarhus, Bristol, Budapest, Rome, Memmingen, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Kyiv, Krakow, Lviv, Malaga, Palermo, Paris, Stockholm, Oslo and Warsaw this year and to Newcastle next summer.

During the winter season, Ryanair passengers will be able to fly to 33 destinations, including London, Dublin, Milan, Manchester, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Frankfurt, Leeds, Malta, Paphos, Prague, Venice and Vienna.

Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga International Airport: “Ryanair’s base in Riga is an important step for our Airport as a regional aviation hub. The wide range of routes and geography provided by Ryanair’s presence at Riga Airport will provide more opportunities for Latvian and Baltic passengers to choose exciting trips at affordable prices, while foreign tourists will benefit from more convenient opportunities to arrive in Latvia”.

Ryanair’s new base includes two Riga-based aircraft as well as 60 new jobs. The company has made investments in the amount of USD 200 million.

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness, said:

“We are delighted to announce the opening of our new base in Riga while other airlines close theirs. Efficient operations and competitive airport charges provide the foundation from which Ryanair can deliver long-term traffic growth and increased connectivity.  We have worked closely with Riga Airport to secure this growth and improve the services for those that live, work, or wish to visit the region.  At a time when other airlines are reducing their workforce and closing their bases, we’re delighted to be making further investments in both our people and in airports throughout Europe.”
