Plane Bursts into Flames after Landing

A light plane with two passengers has burst into flames, after making an emergency landing at Wagga Wagga Airport. Two men made a lucky escape and sustained minor injuries.

The two-seater Jabiru had taken off about 2.10pm and was 250m in the air when the pilot smelt smoke.

Aircraft powered by Jabiru engines were involved in the most engine failures or malfunctions with 130 reported over the 6 years. This represents about one in ten aircraft powered by Jabiru engines in the study set having reported an engine failure or malfunction.

Jabiru Aircraft Pty Ltd is an Australian aircraft manufacturer that produces a range of kit- and ready-built civil light aircraft in Bundaberg, Queensland.
