The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and Volaris; Airlines today announced new direct service from Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) to Aguascalientes, Mexico (AGU) ), a new destination from Chicago.
This new service from Midway begins on June 16, 2019 and will operate twice weekly on A-319 aircraft seating 144 passengers.
“We are pleased to welcome Volaris’ new route from Midway ahead of the busy summer travel season,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation. “We thank Volaris for choosing to expand their business in Chicago. Every new flight added from Chicago’s airports generates greater opportunities for our communities, and keeps our City better connected to the world.”
Named for its abundant hot springs, the Mexican state of Aguascalientes, with a population of 1.3 million, is also known as a manufacturing center and for its table wines, brandy, aguardiente and other fruit liquors.
Volaris’ expanded service to Aguascalientes comes on the heels of a record year for air services expansion for Chicago’s airports–with nearly 50 new domestic and international routes added at both O’Hare and Midway International Airports combined in 2018. The airline has continued its commitment to and grown a strong market in Mexico by adding several new markets since its start at Midway in 2010.
