Norwegian Group carried a total of 2.8 million passengers in June, with both Norwegian and Widerøe reporting year-on-year growth as the summer travel season gathered pace.
Norwegian transported 2.4 million passengers during the month, while regional carrier Widerøe welcomed 404,000 passengers, marking the first time in its history that it has exceeded 400,000 monthly travelers.
Norwegian Expands Capacity Ahead of Peak Summer
Norwegian increased capacity by 8% compared with June 2025, reaching 3,991 million available seat kilometres (ASK). Passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), rose 2% to 3,337 million.
The airline operated an average fleet of 93 aircraft during the month. Load factor reached 83.6%, down 4.8 percentage points year over year, reflecting the increase in available capacity and the launch of several new summer routes.
Operational performance remained strong, with 99.3% of scheduled flights operated. Punctuality, measured by departures within 15 minutes of schedule, stood at 79.4%, a decrease of 2.2 percentage points compared with June last year.
“I am pleased to see that we manage to increase the numbers of passengers across both airlines in June. We have a solid 8 percent capacity increase in Norwegian, while Widerøe has set a new passenger record,” said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.
Strong Demand for Summer Travel
Norwegian expects July to become the busiest month of the year, supported by continued demand for Mediterranean beach holidays and European city breaks from travelers across the Nordic region.
The airline also anticipates growing interest from travelers across Europe seeking cooler summer destinations in the Nordic countries, a trend commonly referred to as “coolcation” travel.
According to Karlsen, Norwegian will operate more than 500 flights per day during the peak holiday season while maintaining a very low cancellation rate.
Widerøe Achieves Historic Passenger Milestone
Regional airline Widerøe delivered its strongest June on record, carrying 404,000 passengers for the first time in company history.
The airline increased capacity by 7% year over year to 205 million available seat kilometres, while passenger traffic grew 3% to 160 million revenue passenger kilometres.
Load factor reached 78.1%, a decline of 3.1 percentage points compared with June 2025.
Widerøe recorded particularly strong operational performance, completing 98.5% of scheduled flights. Punctuality improved significantly to 92.8%, an increase of 3.7 percentage points from the previous year.
“This has been a month of excellent operational performance for Widerøe, in addition to a new passenger record. I would like to thank all our great colleagues across the organisation for their work to reach this milestone,” said Widerøe CEO Tore Jenssen.
Positive Start to the Summer Season
The June results reflect continued growth across the Norwegian Group as both airlines expand capacity to meet seasonal demand. While Norwegian is focusing on new international leisure routes, Widerøe continues to strengthen regional connectivity across Norway, combining record passenger numbers with improved operational reliability.
