Part of the upper tier at Werder Bremen’s Weserstadion collapsed during construction work after a support column was accidentally cut, according to Bild.
The incident occurred in the section between the South Stand and the East Stand while renovation work was underway. No one was injured in the collapse.
Construction Error Triggers Collapse
A construction worker mistakenly cut through a load-bearing column, causing several rows of concrete seating in the upper tier to collapse.
The affected section was under construction at the time, and there were no spectators or workers in the immediate area when the collapse occurred.
Matches Not Expected to Be Affected
Structural inspections carried out after the incident found that neighbouring sections of the stadium had not been damaged.
As a result, Werder Bremen expects to proceed with its planned open training session and pre-season friendly against French club Auxerre on 15 August.
Repairs Continue Ahead of Bundesliga Season
It remains unclear whether the damaged section, which contains approximately 500 seats, will be repaired before the club’s first Bundesliga home match of the season against RB Leipzig, scheduled for early September.
If repairs are not completed in time, the affected block is expected to remain closed, with season-ticket holders relocated to alternative seats elsewhere in the stadium.
The cost of repairing the damaged stand has not yet been disclosed.
