The airport has partnered with Swissport International’s airport hospitality brand Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality to create the new premium space, which is scheduled to open in early 2027 and will be accessible to all passengers travelling through the airport.
The move represents a notable evolution for London City Airport, which has built its reputation on fast, convenient domestic and international travel since opening in 1987, but has not previously offered a dedicated luxury lounge product of this kind.
First Luxury Lounge Planned for Early 2027
The new pre-flight lounge will be located within London City Airport’s departures area and is being positioned as a premium hospitality experience for both business and leisure travellers.
Construction is already underway, with the airport confirming that the lounge is expected to welcome its first guests by early 2027.
Unlike airline-specific lounges, the new space will be independent and open to all passengers travelling through the airport, either through advance online booking, walk-in access or, later, an annual membership model.
Aspire Partnership Brings Premium Airport Hospitality to LCY
To deliver the project, London City Airport has partnered with Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality, the airport lounge and hospitality arm of Swissport International.
Aspire already operates lounges and premium airport hospitality concepts in multiple international markets, and the partnership is intended to bring that experience into one of London’s most distinctive and business-focused airports.
For London City Airport, the collaboration is part of a broader effort to modernise its offer and respond to growing passenger demand for higher-end pre-flight experiences.
Design Focused on Modern Luxury and Ease
The new lounge is being designed around a contemporary luxury aesthetic, with guests entering through a five-star hotel-style lobby directly connected to the departures lounge.
That layout is intended to make the transition from airport security to lounge relaxation as seamless as possible, reinforcing London City Airport’s longstanding focus on speed and convenience.
Inside, the space will feature curated interiors and views over the airport’s runway – one of the most distinctive elements of the LCY experience, given the airport’s compact layout and close-in city setting.
Cocktail Bar, Barista Coffee and Flexible Dining
The hospitality concept will include a centrepiece cocktail bar and a dedicated barista station serving locally roasted coffee, positioning the lounge as both a relaxation space and a premium food-and-drink destination.
The airport says the menu will be artisanal and regularly evolving, with food and beverage options inspired by both travel and the city of London itself.
That approach suggests the lounge will be positioned not simply as a waiting area, but as part of the airport experience in its own right, aimed at travellers willing to pay for a more elevated start to their journey.
Dedicated Workspace for Business Travellers
Business travel remains central to London City Airport’s identity, and the lounge will include a dedicated workspace designed specifically with that audience in mind.
Plans include extensive seating, private booths and quiet areas intended to support calls, laptop work and pre-flight meetings, giving the airport a stronger premium offer for passengers travelling on business.
At the same time, the design is also aimed at upscale leisure travellers, reflecting how London City Airport is trying to broaden its appeal beyond its traditional corporate base.
Part of a Bigger Growth Story at London City Airport
The lounge announcement comes at an important moment for the airport. London City Airport is moving ahead with plans to grow passenger numbers to nine million annually, a major increase that would further expand its role in London’s aviation market.
As it approaches its 40th year in 2027, the airport is positioning itself not only as the most convenient London airport for many travellers, but also as a more premium and experience-led one.
The new lounge follows a wider refurbishment of the main departures area completed in 2024, signalling a continued investment programme focused on both capacity and passenger quality.
Open to All Passengers, Not Just Premium Cabin Flyers
One of the more notable aspects of the new lounge is that it will not be tied to a particular airline or cabin class. Instead, London City Airport intends it to be available to any passenger willing to pay for access.
That fits a wider trend in airport hospitality, where premium lounges are increasingly being sold as standalone experiences rather than reserved exclusively for business-class travellers or elite loyalty members.
For London City Airport, that model could help unlock additional commercial revenue while also giving more passengers the option to upgrade their airport experience regardless of which airline they are flying.
A New Chapter for the Airport’s Passenger Experience
The launch of a luxury lounge may seem like a relatively small infrastructure move compared with runway capacity or terminal expansion, but strategically it is important for London City Airport.
It signals that the airport is not only growing in volume but also trying to redefine what its passenger experience looks like as competition intensifies across London’s airport market. With a stronger hospitality offer, broader lounge access and a focus on both convenience and design, London City Airport is clearly aiming to sharpen its premium positioning ahead of its next phase of growth.
