Atlas Ocean Voyages has revealed plans to build its first-ever luxury expedition sailing yacht, a next-generation platform that signals a strategic expansion beyond its existing motorised expedition fleet.
The new Atlas-class vessel, Atlas Adventurer, represents both a technical and brand evolution for the line, blending hybrid propulsion, solid sail technology and high-end hospitality in a single 690-foot platform engineered for global exploration.
Atlas Adventurer will measure 690 feet in length and 26,000 gross tons, positioning it among the largest purpose-built luxury expedition sailing yachts announced to date. The vessel will feature three carbon masts fitted with solid sails, dual-fuel engines, electric-hybrid propulsion and a 9-megawatt marine battery system. When wind and sea conditions allow, the solid sails and hybrid system are designed to enable zero-emission cruising with near-silent operation. The battery capacity will support sustained performance even in light wind conditions, reducing reliance on conventional propulsion and reinforcing the company’s sustainability ambitions.
The yacht will also be equipped with zero-speed fin stabilisers, two vertical fin stabilisers, reinforced hull construction and Ice Class 1B (Polar Category C) certification. This engineering profile expands the vessel’s operational envelope into colder and remote environments while maintaining passenger comfort in variable sea states.
Designed to balance scale with boutique hospitality, Atlas Adventurer will accommodate up to 400 guests supported by 275 crew members, reflecting a strong crew-to-guest ratio within the expedition segment. All accommodations will be suites, and the onboard experience will include seven dining venues with specialty restaurants, a dedicated culinary studio for destination-inspired programming, five lounges, two outdoor bars, expanded fitness and wellness facilities, a swimming pool and a marina platform with an ocean pool. Expedition capabilities will include Zodiacs and luxury motorboats for landings and coastal exploration. The overall design aims to preserve the intimate service model associated with the brand while significantly broadening social space and programming.
Beginning in late 2028, Atlas Adventurer is scheduled to operate itineraries across Asia and Africa. Planned Asian destinations include Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, while African sailings are expected to feature Seychelles, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa. The deployment signals a deliberate expansion into warm-water expedition cruising, complementing the company’s established focus on polar and remote regions.
According to President and CEO James Rodriguez, the vessel represents the next phase of the company’s growth strategy, expanding its destination footprint while reinforcing its positioning within the luxury expedition category. From a market standpoint, the announcement reflects accelerating demand for environmentally conscious cruising, the continued expansion of expedition-style travel into Asia and Africa, and a growing interest in combining sailing aesthetics with advanced propulsion systems. Hybrid expedition yachts with sail assistance remain rare at this scale, positioning Atlas Adventurer as a differentiated entrant in a competitive but rapidly evolving segment.
Atlas Ocean Voyages has opened Early Access Priority reservations, inviting guests to secure inaugural season placement with a USD 2,000 deposit. Registrants will receive early updates on itinerary details, onboard experiences, culinary concepts and service enhancements as the vessel progresses toward its planned 2028 debut.
