BOC Aviation has signed a lease agreement with Turkish airline AJet for five factory-new Airbus A321neo aircraft, adding to the carrier’s narrow-body fleet as it expands. The jets are powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and are scheduled for delivery in 2028.
The deal gives AJet access to one of Airbus’s most widely used single-aisle aircraft. The A321neo is designed for improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions than older generation aircraft, making it a common choice for airlines looking to cut operating costs and refresh fleets.
BOC Aviation is one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing companies, supplying jets to airlines across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Lease deals such as this allow airlines to add capacity without buying aircraft outright, which can help preserve cash and provide greater flexibility as travel demand changes.
AJet, which operates in Turkey and on international routes, is continuing to build its fleet profile with newer aircraft types. The addition of five A321neos suggests it is planning for future growth and a more efficient medium-haul network.
The Pratt & Whitney GTF engine family has faced scrutiny in recent years over maintenance and durability issues across parts of the global fleet, but it remains a major powerplant for the A321neo. Airlines that choose the type often weigh the benefits of lower fuel burn against the operational and servicing implications of the engine programme.
Airbus’s A321neo has become a key aircraft in post-pandemic airline planning because it offers more seats than the smaller A320neo while still fitting most existing airport infrastructure. Its range and seat capacity make it popular with carriers that want to open new routes or increase frequencies without moving to larger wide-body aircraft.
For AJet, the arrival of five new aircraft in 2028 will likely support route expansion and fleet modernisation. For BOC Aviation, the agreement adds another long-term lease placement with a fast-growing airline customer.
