Cromlix Reopens With New Restaurants And Wellness Retreat After Major Expansion

Cromlix has officially reopened following nearly six months of closure, unveiling new restaurants, expanded wellness facilities and additional guest accommodation as the luxury country house hotel enters a new chapter.

The five-star property, owned by Andy and Kim Murray, closed last September to complete one of the most ambitious transformations since the hotel’s major refurbishment in 2023.

The reopening introduces new dining concepts, upgraded hospitality facilities and wellness experiences designed to strengthen the hotel’s position within Scotland’s luxury countryside market.

New Restaurants Become Centerpiece Of The Relaunch

The most significant addition is The Garden Room, a new 80-seat restaurant housed inside a purpose-built glass-fronted building overlooking the hotel’s grounds.

The restaurant focuses heavily on locally sourced ingredients, with produce supplied from the hotel’s own kitchen garden alongside regional suppliers.

Alongside the larger restaurant, Cromlix has also introduced Cradle, an intimate 16-cover fine-dining experience located inside the main hotel building.

The hotel’s former signature restaurant space, The Glasshouse, has now been repositioned as a dedicated venue for afternoon tea experiences and private events.

Major Investment Expands Guest Experience

The redevelopment also included relocating and expanding the hotel kitchen to support increased dining capacity and improve operational efficiency.

Local architect Fergus Purdie led the design of the new restaurant building, while interiors specialist Suzanne Garuda returned following work completed during Cromlix’s earlier refurbishment.

Construction was delivered by local contractor Kings Group, with the project employing dozens of workers from nearby communities.

Wellness Facilities Expand Beyond Traditional Hospitality

Alongside dining improvements, Cromlix has introduced a new wellness concept called Woodland Retreat.

The facility offers personalized treatment experiences alongside wellness amenities including a sauna and cold plunge facilities.

The addition reflects growing demand among luxury travelers for countryside hotels that combine traditional hospitality with wellness-focused experiences.

Additional Rooms Increase Accommodation Capacity

Three additional guestrooms have also been added during the transformation, including a new accessible suite located on the ground floor.

The expansion increases flexibility for guests while allowing the property to accommodate broader visitor demand.

A New Chapter For One Of Scotland’s Best-Known Country Hotels

General manager Barry Makin described the project as one of the most ambitious developments undertaken by the property.

“Cromlix has always been a special place, but it has really been elevated by these new additions,” he said.

The reopening arrives at a time when luxury countryside hotels continue competing not only on accommodation quality but increasingly through dining, wellness and experience-led travel.

For Cromlix, the latest transformation appears designed to ensure guests come for more than simply an overnight stay – and perhaps leave with several reasons to return.
