Azamara Cruises Sets 2028 Schedule with 87% in Port

Azamara Cruises has announced its spring, summer and fall 2028 sailings, describing the programme as one of the most ambitious and destination-focused seasons in its history.

The small-ship line said 87% of its deployment will be spent in port, with more than 360 late nights and overnight stays accounting for 53% of total port days.

The company said the schedule is designed to give guests more time ashore and to support its Destination Immersion experiences and Extended Destination Days strategy.

Azamara, known for operating smaller ships than many mainstream cruise brands, is positioning the new itineraries around time in destination rather than time at sea. The line said the approach gives travellers a better chance to explore ports beyond peak crowds and experience places in a more authentic way.

The cruise line said the 2028 season reinforces its role as an industry leader in immersive destination experiences. It did not give further details in the statement about individual itineraries, ship assignments or booking dates.

The focus on late nights and overnight stays is central to the plan. Those longer calls allow passengers to dine, sightsee and join local activities after day visitors have left, which has become a selling point for cruise lines trying to stand out in a crowded market.

Azamara said the new line-up marks a major step in its push to deepen its destination offering. By increasing the share of time in port, the company is betting that more travellers will choose itineraries that prioritise local experiences over longer stretches at sea.

For cruise passengers, the appeal is straightforward: more time on shore, fewer rushed visits and more opportunities to see a destination after the main tourist crowds have gone. That message is likely to resonate with travellers looking for slower, more immersive holiday options.
