Luxury Family Hotels has confirmed a significant refurbishment programme for The Ickworth in Bury St Edmunds, marking the final phase of the group’s portfolio-wide renovation strategy. The 38-bedroom, Grade-I listed property recently secured planning permission for upgrades to its east wing, with a focus on revitalising its spa and kitchen facilities.

According to the approved plans, treatment rooms currently located in the basement will be relocated to the Chaise Building, enabling the existing rooms to be converted into new ladies toilets, complementing the men’s facilities already in place. The spa’s changing rooms will also be reconfigured, and a steam room will be added to the pool house, enhancing the guest wellness offering.

The hotel’s ground-floor kitchen is set to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment. A new pizza oven will be installed and will serve both the function space and the cinema room adjacent to it, expanding the property’s family-focused dining options.

The Ickworth is the final hotel in the Luxury Family Hotels collection to receive a full refurbishment, following substantial investment across the rest of the portfolio. In 2023, the group relaunched Fowey Hall in Cornwall and Moonfleet Manor in Dorset, unveiling updated interiors, new family amenities and enhanced spa facilities.

Fowey Hall now serves as the flagship property within the portfolio, having expanded to 60 rooms and suites and added a new outdoor pool alongside an upgraded spa. The ongoing renovation programme underscores the brand’s commitment to modern family travel, combining heritage architecture with contemporary leisure facilities.
