Qantas to Launch New ‘Economy Plus’ Cabin with Extra Legroom and Priority Perks

Qantas is set to introduce Economy Plus, a new cabin class offering extra legroom and added benefits across its domestic and short-haul international fleet. The move is part of the airline’s ongoing effort to give travellers more choice and comfort on board.

Launching in February 2026, Qantas Economy Plus will feature up to 40% more legroom, priority boarding, and dedicated overhead baggage space. The new seats will be installed on the Airbus A321XLR, A220, and Boeing 737 aircraft operating on routes across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

Designed for frequent flyers

Frequent Flyers will be among the first to benefit. Platinum members and above will enjoy complimentary access to Economy Plus at the time of booking, while Gold members will receive free upgrades at check-in.

According to the airline, more than 21,000 extra-legroom seats are already selected weekly by Frequent Flyers, highlighting strong demand for additional space toward the front of the cabin.

Fleet renewal and rollout

The launch aligns with Qantas’ major fleet renewal program, which includes 48 next-generation A321XLR aircraft on order. The first two are already flying domestically, with a third due before year-end. The airline is also taking delivery of new A220s with the extra-legroom seats already fitted and will begin reconfiguring its Boeing 737 fleet in December.

“An evolution of our Economy offering”

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said the new cabin reflects the airline’s focus on flexibility, comfort, and value for loyal customers.

“This is an evolution of our Economy offering and delivers more choice for our customers while recognising our most loyal frequent flyers with expanded benefits,” Hudson said.

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the onboard experience and maximise comfort for our customers. We believe this new seating product will be popular with both corporate and leisure travellers when it launches next year.”

Pricing details for Qantas Economy Plus will be announced closer to launch.
