The Charles Hotel, Munich, Unveils the Redesigned Monforte Royal Suite by Lady Olga Polizzi

The Charles Hotel, part of the Rocco Forte Hotels collection, has unveiled its newly redesigned Monforte Royal Suite, a masterwork of craftsmanship and elegance led by Lady Olga Polizzi, Director of Design at Rocco Forte Hotels, in collaboration with Magdalena Onisko.

Occupying a commanding position on the hotel’s eighth floor, the Monforte Royal Suite is the largest of The Charles Hotel’s 28 suites and one of three Forte Suites. Named after Monforte, the Italian mountain village overlooking the Valle di Comino and the ancestral home of the Forte family, the suite is a tribute to both Italian heritage and Munich’s timeless sophistication.

Elevated Design and Heritage

From its private terrace, guests are treated to panoramic views of Munich’s skyline and the Old Botanical Garden just below — a scene that reflects the suite’s namesake connection to nature, height, and beauty. Inside, a series of interconnected rooms flow gracefully through grand double doors, creating a sense of openness and continuity. Each space carries its own identity, yet together they form a cohesive design narrative defined by balance, warmth, and understated grandeur.

The dining room serves as the suite’s focal point, featuring a striking 1950s wrought-iron dining table attributed to celebrated French metalworker Raymond Subes, its curved forms supporting a thick glass top. The table is surrounded by plush coral velvet chairs, a vivid counterpoint to the muted ochre and sandy tones that reference Italy’s influence on Munich’s architecture.

Art Deco Influences and Bespoke Detailing

The Monforte Royal Suite’s design carries subtle Art Deco influences, reflected in its organic shapes, rounded lines, and sculptural furnishings. A newly designed bespoke bar cabinet in black stone and wood, detailed with antique brass and mirrored panels, brings contrast and light to the space while adding an air of modern glamour.

Art plays a central role in the suite’s story. Each curated piece connects Munich’s cultural identity to the Forte family’s Anglo-Italian heritage, weaving together elements of history, context, and personal expression.

A Space That Feels Like Home

Lady Polizzi describes the Monforte Royal Suite as the highlight of The Charles Hotel’s redesign — and the most beautiful in the entire Rocco Forte collection. Generous in scale yet deeply personal in feel, it blurs the line between private residence and hotel suite. Every detail, from the choice of fabrics to the selection of artwork, has been curated with care and intimacy, embodying the warmth and character of a home designed for living.

The result is a space that captures the spirit of Rocco Forte Hotels — refined, authentic, and quietly opulent — where design tells a story, and every element invites connection.
