From 5 September to 31 October 2025, the Estonian capital and beyond will once again become a stage for contemporary photography as the 8th edition of Tallinn Photomonth unfolds. With exhibitions spread across Tallinn, Tartu, and Viljandi, the biennial festival highlights photography’s evolving role as both a medium and a mirror of culture.

This year’s program opens on September 5 at the historic Saarinen House with Tanja Muravskaja’s solo exhibition Gardens: Tanja Muravskaja and Light. Her new series explores the delicate threshold between reality and image, with water as a recurring metaphor for perception.

Also launching on the same day is “Shaping the Unclaimed”, an ambitious international project in Tallinn’s Kaubamaja intersection, spread across seven urban locations. Set against the backdrop of a stimulus-saturated city, the exhibition reimagines public space as a site where art can carve out pauses, perspectives, and moments of clarity.

On September 25, attention turns to a cross-border dialogue in the group show just juuri nüüd nyt, presented simultaneously at Hobusepea Gallery and FOKU Gallery. Bringing together Estonian and Finnish photographic artists, the exhibition asks what photography means today—not just technically, but also politically, culturally, and emotionally.

The main program concludes with Sirje Runge’s solo exhibition On Fragile Grounds. Sirje Runge and Light, opening on October 11 at Kai Art Center. Through color, light, and perceptual play, Runge considers fragility as a lens for creation, dissolution, and transformation.

Beyond the main program, 14 satellite exhibitions across Tallinn, Tartu, and Viljandi, along with a diverse public program, will extend Photomonth’s reach, making the festival one of the most significant cultural events on the Baltic art calendar.
