GWR Launches Direct Train Service Connecting Stroud to Bristol, Bath, and Chippenham

Great Western Railway (GWR) has announced a new direct train service connecting Stroud to Bristol, Bath, and Chippenham. The service, set to launch on Saturday, December 21, 2024, aims to enhance regional connectivity between Gloucestershire and the southwest of England.

The newly introduced service will run directly between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, stopping at key stations including Stonehouse, Stroud, Kemble, Swindon, Chippenham, and Bath Spa.

GWR highlighted that the new connection will address rising passenger demand and improve convenience, particularly for weekend travelers making leisure or shopping trips.

Service Details:

  • Departure Time: Stroud at 9:10 AM on Saturdays
  • Route: Cheltenham Spa → Stonehouse → Stroud → Kemble → Swindon → Chippenham → Bath Spa → Bristol Temple Meads

The direct service will also alleviate congestion on the popular 8:59 AM Cheltenham-to-London Paddington train by offering an alternative, spacious, and comfortable travel option for passengers heading southwest.

“This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to optimize passenger experience and improve regional travel connectivity,” GWR said in a statement.

The launch of this service marks a significant step in enhancing travel accessibility across Gloucestershire and key cities in the southwest region.
