Avinor Announces Billion-dollar Contracts at Norway’s Largest Airports

Avinor is now announcing a wide range of contracts within retail, kiosk and catering for a total value of more than NOK 8 billion. The tender competition gives both small and large players attractive opportunities to conduct business at Norway’s four largest airports.

The tender includes all retail areas at the airports in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim, as well as the entire serving portfolio at Bergen Airport Flesland. A total of 38 contracts are announced and cover everything from kiosks, restaurants, bookstores and pharmacies, to souvenir, electrical, lifestyle and fashion stores.

During normal operations, Avinor’s airports are among the largest and most attractive marketplaces in the country, with a broadly composed customer group with high purchasing power, says Joachim Lupnaav Johnsen, Executive Vice President for Commercial Development at Avinor.

This is the first time Avinor has announced such a broad contract portfolio across airports at the same time. Smaller players will be able to bid on individual areas, at the same time as large national and international players have the opportunity to bid on several contracts in order to achieve economies of scale. The contracts have a duration of up to 5 years, and risk-reducing mechanisms have been put in place that make the contracts attractive to the providers. Among other things, fixed rent is no longer required on sales areas, only turnover-based rent and operating costs.

Wide range of concepts
It is an objective to attract a wide range of concepts that appeal to both Norwegian and foreign passengers, and which help to support the airports’ “sense of place”. Avinor is therefore looking for local and international partners with inspiring and sustainable concepts that can take the passenger experience to new heights.

– We want to facilitate a greater breadth in the concepts both within and across the airports, and we will strengthen the regional sense of place. You should preferably be able to notice that you land in Bergen, for example, and not any other European airport. We want to find a good balance between the global and the local players, and with this we hope to see new, interesting constellations, says Johnsen.
