Hotel de la Ville to Open in 2019

The historical Hotel de la Ville, a Rocco Forte Hotel located on Via Sistina, has revealed its splendid new façade while local artisans continue to work on expertly restoring the beautiful architectural features in what promises to be the most exciting hotel opening in the Eternal City next year. Opening in May 2019, the historical 18th-century palazzo is located above the Spanish Steps and pays homage to the European Grand Tour giving it an irresistible contemporary twist.

Designer Tommaso Ziffer, who has also designed the timeless Hotel de Russie in Rome and Hotel de Rome in Berlin, in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels, has created the most elegant and spacious hotel rooms in Rome. The 104 rooms and suites take guests on a playful voyage of discovery based on Rome’s past and present history. Echoing the 17th century Flemish tapestries that once decorated Italian palazzos and the elegantly hand painted wallpaper featuring local foliage creates a wonderful sense of place. Meanwhile, striking black and white handmade terracotta tiles thread through the public rooms, evoking ancient Roman paved floors.

Roman Renaissance inspired statues, historic prints and distinctive blue and white ceramic designs, which were once a symbol of wealth and culture, decorate the suites and rooms to blend colours and shapes into a theatrical embrace of comfort. When staying in a suite, guests will be treated to breath-taking views of the city from their private balcony. The Presidential Suite can easily be described as the most exceptional suite in Rome featuring its own kitchen, studio and two sensational panoramic terraces.

With a stellar international career that springs from a culinary philosophy founded on simplicity and surprise, Executive Chef Fulvio Pierangelini has brought his inspiration to Hotel de la Ville. Located on the ground floor will be an all-day bistro offering Tuscan flavours and a special wine tasting room. The courtyard, a focus gathering point for the locals and guests alike mirrors the typical Italian “pialazzi” that is vital to local communities.  There, guests can dine in the gourmet restaurant that will offer a sophisticated sharing concept as well as enjoy the hotel bar. On the seventh floor is the terrace restaurant with the most panoramic of rooftop bars towering over the Eternal City.

The Roman Empire is celebrated in the 700sqm lavish spa that features intimate treatment rooms, a sauna, a Hamman and a steam room – a destination in itself which will leave guests enchanted and refreshed.

Rome is the Caput Mundi of the ancient world; the high point of romantic, artistic, religious pilgrimages. Few cities possess its hidden treasures. Fewer still, its timeless elegance. Now, for perhaps the first time, a five-star hotel in the heart of Rome captures its modern vitality, while re-imagining the rich history and elegant traditions of the European Grand Tour.

Sir Rocco Forte commenting on the imminent opening: “Rome continues to be a highly attractive destination for both the business and leisure travellers. I so look forward to the opening of Hotel de la Ville. It is in a splendid location with breath-taking views over the city and the most extraordinary level of services. With its cool and relaxed atmosphere, Hotel de la Ville will be the perfect complement to our existing Hotel de Russie”.
