Iuliia Tore According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned and operated by OJSC Russian Railways carried more than 106.2 million passengers in August 2018, 3.2% more than in the same month last year.
Suburban passengers amounted to 92.8 million, up 2.7%, while long-distance passenger numbers were up 7% to 13.3 million.
Passenger turnover in August 2018 amounted to 16.9 billion passenger-kilometres, 4.6% more than in the same month in 2017.
Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 3.1 billion passenger-km, up 2.9%, while long-distance turnover increased to 13.8 billion passenger-km, a rise of 4.9%.
During January to August 2018, 760.1 million passengers travelled, up 3.2% compared to January-August 2017.
Long-distance passenger numbers amounted to 76.2 million, an jump of 8.3%. Suburban passengers rose 2.7% to 683.9 million.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 5.1% since the beginning of 2018 compared to the level of the same period during the previous year and amounted to 89.6 billion pass-km, including 21.7 billion passenger kilometres in suburban traffic, a rise of 2.3%, while long-distance passenger turnover was up 6% to 67.9 billion pass-km.
During the same eight months of 2018, the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) transported more than 81.3 million passengers, with over 10.5 million passengers travelling on the Lastochka electric trains used on the MCR in August.
On 16 May 2018, the MCC transported 449,818 people and thus set a record for the number of passengers travelling on one day since it was launched.
