Russian Railways introduced a new service by the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ in order to enable fans to use its Wi-Fi networks at railway stations in the cities hosting the games.
All fans have to do is to just sign by entering their ticket number. Earlier, logging on to Wi-Fi networks was possible only by entering a mobile phone number.
The Wi-Fi service is provided by TransTeleCom, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, and above all will help international fans who may not have a SIM-card from a Russian mobile operator.
The system for logging on to the unified Wi-Fi network at the 31 railway stations in the cities hosting the games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ has been integrated with the Express Automated Control System (ACS).
The ACS enables the prompt identification of the passenger when registering in a wireless network in accordance with the requirements of Russian law. At the same time, the complete security of passenger data is ensured.
In order to connect to the wireless Internet, passengers need to find the network name in the settings of their device and pass a simple authorisation procedure by entering the number of their railway ticket into the corresponding field.
Fans can undertake the authorisation procedure using their ticket number four hours before their train’s departure and for four hours after arriving at the station.
Russian Railways provides access to wireless Internet at 136 stations, stations and stops throughout the country. The service has proved highly popular, with the total number of connections exceeding 6 million.
