Russia to resume flights to Egypt

An Egyptian-Russian cooperation protocol in maintaining civil aviation security was signed last Friday, December 15 after a meeting between Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov and Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi in Moscow.

The protocol intends to resume flights between Moscow and the Egyptian capital of Cairo starting from February. Moscow suspended flights to Egypt after a bomb by the local Islamic State affiliate brought down a Russian airliner over Sinai in October 2015, killing all 224 people on board.

However, Russia is not yet talking about resuming charter flights to Egyptian resorts, that this would be “the next stage” of negotiations, Sokolov said.
