Driverless electric bus to be tested at Helsinki Airport

Finavia and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences will test a driverless electric bus at Helsinki Airport. The driverless bus will operate between two parking areas, and it will carry passengers next to Terminal 2.

The bus will follow a special route on a lane separated from the pedestrian route from the front of Lentäjäntie 1 to the front of parking area 4a/b and back via parking facility P5.

Starting from the beginning of October, you can try a free ride on the driverless bus from Monday to Friday between 12 noon and 2 pm and between 3 and 5 pm. The experiment will continue until 2 November, depending on weather conditions.

Metropolia University of Applied Science will provide the service and carry out the bus pilot project on the basis of its research on the use of driverless buses.

This experiment comprises part of Finavia’s service development, aiming at smoother travel. Finavia tests the opportunities of new technologies for the airport of the future.
