Wizz Air today announced a significant expansion of capacity in its Sofia network, with two new routes and frequency increases on eight popular services reflecting the strong demand for Wizz Air’s lowest fares. WIZZ is adding a total of 22 additional weekly flights to its Sofia schedule growing its seat capacity from the airport to over 2.5 million for 2018, an increase of 12% year-on-year.
Starting in March 2018, the newest WIZZ routes will connect the Bulgarian capital twice a week with the exciting leisure destinations of Lisbon and Nice. Starting also from March 2018, frequencies on each of the popular Sofia services to Barcelona, Brussels Charleroi, Copenhagen, Eindhoven, Rome Fiumicino, Larnaca, London Luton and Tel Aviv will be increased with up to an additional four flights a week. The first Wizz Air flight from Sofia took off in September 2005. Since then, the airline has become the market leader carrier in Bulgaria and has carried over 7.5 million passengers from and to the capital, while constantly expanding its low-fare route network.
Wizz Air has now seven aircraft, including three state-of-the-art Airbus A321s, based in the Bulgarian capital employing over 250 customer-oriented crew. In the first five months of 2017, 786,000 passengers traveled with WIZZ to and from Sofia, 37% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Wizz Air now offers a total of 44 routes, including a domestic service between Sofia and Varna, from its three Bulgarian airports.
